INTERNSHIPS Kick start your career by working alongside industry experts across time zones.
A fast track to the world of trading and technology Our summer internship program teaches you everything you need to know about financial markets, so no background knowledge is required. In the classroom, through desk-shadowing, mock-trading, and from projects and mentors, you’ll get to really understand trading and technology at IMC.

Much of the learning occurs as you participate in trading simulations and writing Python scripts to interact with our simulated exchange. You’ll learn how to make good decisions in a fast-paced environment.

The internship is an extremely realistic job experience. You’ll work on meaningful projects that are important for IMC's overall strategy and have a real impact on the business.

What you can expect

As an intern at IMC you’ll work on meaningful projects. There are so many things we want to research and explore. You will have the opportunity to work on these projects, add your own insights and have an impact. Many interns have seen their work enter production before they’ve even completed their internship. You’ll have a mentor to coach you. But even with their support, believe us, it’s sure to be challenging!

During the first week of the internship, we will teach you everything you need to know so you acquire skills you can directly use during your placement. We will take you through technical training, from option theory and a crash course in Python, to the IMC way of working. But there’s so much more. Our traders and engineers will share their knowledge to get you up to speed and set for success.

During the second part of the internship you’ll work with the other interns (tech and trading) on a complex group project. It’s the perfect way to leverage the skills that different interns bring, while getting to know IMC better. Mentors will be on hand to help you where needed. The outcome of the group projects form the basis for the individual projects. And to underline the value we attach to the internship, you’ll get the chance to present your work to the rest of IMC.

The final part of the internship is the individual project. Based on the strengths and interests you showed during the group project, you’ll be assigned to a desk, mentor and project. The remainder of the internship you’ll be part of one of our trading or tech teams, working on your own project. While your mentor will be involved most, you should tap the knowledge and skills of your teammates too, taking the opportunity to learn and shadow. By the end of your internship your project should be finished. You’ll present your findings to your team and key stakeholders within IMC.

Throughout the internship there are opportunities to shadow different desks. In the first few weeks we’ll make time in the program for you to look around, so that during the second part of the internship we can leave it to you. Try to get a feeling for the teams, their differences and what they have in common. And you won’t leave IMC before you have been trading yourself. Mock trading is fun and gives you new insights in what trading at IMC actually means.

During the individual project you’ll stay a full team member. You’ll take part in catch-ups and team meetings, join the team for social outings and help them when help is needed. They might run into a problem you can solve, or perhaps you can build a tool that can make things more efficient or spot the opportunity for a cool side-project. While your priority is to complete your project, you’ll be encouraged to contribute fully to the team too.

If you’re offered an Internship at IMC that’s a sign of our confidence in you. The application process for our graduate and intern positions is identical. We hire you as an intern because we see potential to hire you for a full time position after you graduate. Take your time to get to know IMC and to get an understanding of what a full time position will look like. Are you thriving and performing well? Are you enjoying yourself? If so, then there’s a good chance that we’d love to see you back for a full time position after you graduate.

Once a year, from the beginning of July until the end of September, we host a large group of students in a structured program lasting approx. 3 months. If you want to start at another time of year, we’d still love to hear from you. We can offer internships between 12 weeks and 6 months, with flexible starting dates. If you do an off-cycle internship, you’ll be assigned to a mentor who’ll support you.
