What are the key protocols and technologies used by IMC network engineers?
To maintain, support, and enhance our global network infrastructure, our network engineers need to have a broad range of technological capabilities at their fingertips. This means having in-depth knowledge of TCP/IP, Ethernet, Unicast, and Multicast routing, and experience in operating low-latency networks.
At the same time, our network engineers are well versed in protocols such as OSPF, BGP, PIM SM, QoS, and NAT. In terms of coding, we expect our network support engineers to contribute scripts and codes to our automation efforts using Python, Ansible, or Bash.
But understanding and implementing these technologies across our network is only part of the story. A senior network engineer must also be able to communicate technical concepts and challenges clearly and effectively to a wide range of internal stakeholders – from IMC’s trading desks to software and hardware engineers.
A network engineer’s typical career path

Of course, there are many different routes network engineers can take – such as working in trading landscapes, WiFi technologies, or low-latency trading, for example.
